What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound (sonography) is an imaging modality that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to provide cross-sectional images of soft tissue structures, such as the liver, kidneys, thyroid, and other organs of the body. An ultrasound exam is obtained using real-time imaging without being exposed to ionizing radiation. The images provide more accuracy in assisting with diagnostic procedures and deliver valuable information when diagnosing a variety of diseases and conditions.
