The Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center offers services including, but not limited to:

We use the most recent practice guidelines to prevent or minimize the complications of diabetes. The Diabetes and Nutrition Education Office has been certified by the American Diabetes Association since 2008 for offering high quality diabetes self-management education. This certification ensures that our program meets the national standards for diabetes self-management education programs.

Patients may be referred to the Diabetes and Nutrition Education Office by their primary care physician, or the provider who is managing their diabetes. Referring physicians who use the Diabetes and Nutrition Education Office for consultations will receive a written patient evaluation and related recommendations. Services also include nutritional support and assessment of clinical nutrition problems.

Benefit From a Certified Diabetes Educator

A Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) is a health professional who possesses comprehensive knowledge and experience in diabetes prevention, prediabetes, and diabetes management. The CDCES educates, supports, and advocates for people affected by diabetes. CDCES’s have passed a rigorous exam to show they have this specialized knowledge. Diabetes education from a CDCES can lead to better control, which can make you feel like yourself again.

Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurances are accepted with a diagnosis and a referral from your physician. Simply talk to your healthcare provider at your next appointment and ask them for a referral, it’s that easy.

A Registered Dietitian is a health professional who has a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and successfully completed extensive training in the study of foods and nutrition. Dietitians apply the science of nutrition to promote health, treat and prevent malnutrition and provide therapeutic dietary guidelines for patients, clients and the public to enhance optimal health and wellness. We are proud to have Registered Dietitians on our Diabetes and Nutrition Education team. Medical nutritional counseling from a Registered Dietitian gives you the reassurance and confidence that you are getting the most up-to-date and practical guidance in how best to meet your nutrition goals.
