Childbirth Preparation Class Series

WVU Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology in Morgantown is offering a variety of classes for expectant mothers and families. We look forward to helping you prepare for this exciting change in your life!

The Childbirth Preparation Class Series prepares parents for childbirth, breastfeeding, and parenting. The classes are designed to make patients aware of their healthcare options and to encourage involvement in their own healthcare.

Classes include:

These classes will cover some of the following topics:

  • The process of birth
  • Medical options
  • Coping skills for labor
  • Cesarean birth
  • Complications in pregnancy and labor
  • Communicating with healthcare providers
  • Newborn characteristics and care
  • Parenting skills

Please notify us if there is a change in your due date or if you need help scheduling a class. Every effort will be made to place you in the class session of your choice.

Registration

You should register for classes during your second trimester of pregnancy. Class space is limited. To reserve a class space, you can register online, by mail, or by phone.

WVU Medicine lactation consultants assist expecting mothers and their families in understanding the process of breastfeeding.

Topics include:

  • Breastfeeding positions
  • Getting the best start
  • How breastfeeding works
  • Proper latch-on technique
  • Returning to work
  • Signs that breastfeeding is going well
  • When to feed your baby

Cost: $15
Time: 6 – 8 pm
Location: The group meets at the WVU Medicine University Town Centre outpatient facility.

We hope to empower each parent with the tools and knowledge needed for the delivery of their precious baby.

Our class is tailored for first-time parents. We educate mom and partner about expectations for the delivery process.

Topics include:

  • Stages of labor
  • Natural childbirth
  • Pain management assisted childbirth
  • Epidural
  • Cesarean section
  • Incorporation of Bradley and Lamaze relaxation methods during childbirth
  • Kangaroo care
  • Postpartum recovery

Childbirth Traditional Class

Cost: $60
Time: 5:30 – 8:30 pm
Location: The group meets at the University Town Centre location.

Location: Classes will meet in person.

Short and Sweet Childbirth Class

This class provides the same information offered in Traditional and Quick classes but without the guest speakers. This class was created with the hope of being able to provide the needed information to our patients in an efficient manner for those who may have limited time, limited access to transportation, and/or just want the information without the extra participation events of traditional classes.

Time: 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Location: The group meets at the University Town Centre location.

This virtual support group provides the opportunity for moms to connect and find community with others navigating the postpartum period. This group provides a safe space for sharing experiences, addressing emotional and physical challenges, and celebrating successes. The group meets weekly for six weeks on Thursdays at 5 pm, and all postpartum moms are invited to join!.

Cost: Free
Time: Thursday from 5 – 6 pm (no class on October 17, 2024)
Location: Classes will meet via Zoom.
