Provides patients with coordinated care in West Virginia and beyond

West Virginia Health Information Exchange

WVU Medicine participates in the West Virginia Health Information Network (WVHIN) Health Information Exchange (HIE). The goal of the WVHIN is to help West Virginia physicians and providers give better, more efficient care to their patients by the sharing of medical data across the state.

WVU Medicine utilizes Care EveryWhere to access and share data with the WVHIN, and it is also a tool that allows any healthcare facility using the Epic health information system across the country to have electronic access to a patient’s records for treatment purposes.

This means that wherever the patient goes, around the region or across the country, their patient information will be available to all doctors who use the Epic health information system, enabling safer, more coordinated patient care.

Maryland Health Information Exchange

Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP)

CRISP has been formally designated as Maryland’s statewide health information exchange by the Maryland Health Care Commission.

Both HIE and CRISP allow clinical information to move electronically among disparate health information systems. The goal of the HIE is to deliver the right health information to the right place at the right time – providing safer, more efficient, more effective, and more equitable patient centered care.

Patients may opt-out of participating in the HIE. Patients who choose not to participate must complete the Health Information Exchange Patient Opt-Out Form. To fill out the form, visit the CRISP web site at www.crisphealth.org, or call 877-952-7477.
