The WVU Medicine Sports Medicine Center cares for athletes of all sports and all ages – from weekend warriors to competitive college team members. Our goal is to help every patient get back to their highest level of activity possible – whether that means returning to a two-mile, daily jog or reporting for practice with the Mountaineers. We provide evaluations for clearing athletes to return to their sport following illness or injury.

Our physicians have expertise evaluating and treating musculoskeletal injuries using a wide variety of rehabilitative and surgical techniques. As a part of the WVU Medicine family, our sports medicine providers have access to specialists from multiple disciplines, including orthopaedics and the WVU Medicine Spine Center.

WVU Medicine Sports Medicine physicians perform complete physical examinations for athletes of all sports and all ages to identify historical or physical factors that may predispose you to injury and to assess your athletic and physical fitness. We also provide guidance on nutrition for sports performance.

Sports and performance injuries are as varied as the range of activities involved, and our specialists offer a complete range of sports medicine treatment. Many problems can be solved using rehabilitation and strengthening exercises. We will teach you proper conditioning and techniques to help you heal and return to the activities you love.

Our experts consult with neurologists and neurosurgeons to address any concussion symptoms and compare an athlete’s brain function before and after a suspected concussion in order to make safe return-to-play decisions.

WVU Medicine orthopaedic surgeons are experienced in the latest treatments for sports-related conditions, and we use a wide range of rehabilitative and surgical options, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures with fewer incisions and quicker recovery time.
