The Care You Need from the Comfort of Home

Virtual care is just a few questions away. When you or your child isn’t feeling well, e-visits offer a convenient way to receive care from anywhere. Available 24/7 for select options, e-visits can be a quick, cost-effective alternative to visiting a clinic or urgent care for minor conditions such as cold symptoms, back pain, or urinary tract infections (UTIs).

E-Visits are available through MyWVUChart and are billed to your insurance. Your out-of-pocket cost will vary based on your insurance plan.

How it Works

  • From the MyChart dashboard, select Schedule an Appointment, then select E-Visits.
  • If you’re eligible for an e-visit, you’ll complete a brief questionnaire about your symptoms.
  • A WVU Medicine telemedicine provider will review your information and send you a diagnosis and treatment plan—often within an hour.
  • If you prefer, you may submit your e-visit to your own participating virtual or in-person primary care provider.

Visit With Your Primary Care Provider or the First Available Provider

If your primary care provider is a participating provider and you choose that option, e-visits are available:

  • Monday-Friday
  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (excluding holidays)
  • Response time of up to 6 hours

If you choose to be treated by the first available provider, e-visits are available:

  • Seven days a week
  • 8 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • Faster response time

If a participating provider is out of the office or unavailable, messages sent through MyWVUChart may be routed to other authorized WVU Medicine caregivers to support a timely response.

E-Visits FAQ

What happens if I can’t receive treatment through an E-Visit?

Depending on the way you respond to certain questions about your condition, you may be advised to seek in-person care. Additionally, if you complete and submit your E-visit but your provider deems your condition inappropriate for an E-visit, they’ll let you know via a MyWVUChart message.

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for my E-Visit?

Each HSA has different rules on the different types of medical expenses that can be used for. Most of HSA accounts should be used to pay for E-visit. We recommend you check with your HSA administrator to confirm.

Can I get a prescription through an E-Visit?

Yes. Your provider can prescribe medications if you need them and send the online prescriptions directly to the pharmacy of your choice.

Do I need to use a camera or video?

You never need to use video for E-visits, but you can add a photo to help providers understand your condition. When requested, you may upload photos from your mobile device or your computer.

Are E-Visits secure?

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. You control your own password, and your account cannot be accessed without that password. Unlike conventional email, all MyWVUChart messaging is done while you are securely logged in.
