If you are a patient of a WVU Medicine provider, our team will have access to your electronic health records. This allows for seamless communication with your provider, simplifies the prior authorization process for your specialty medications, and many more care coordination benefits! We are all on the same – your team.
Pharmacists: Here for you and your loved ones
Our team of clinical pharmacists provides medication education (i.e., administration, management of potential side effects, injection training, the importance of adherence, and more) to ensure you are knowledgeable and comfortable with their medication.
Typically, you will hear from a pharmacist by telephone, but they are also available to provide education in person or through video counseling on MyWVUChart during normal business hours.
At the physical pharmacy location, there is a designated counseling room to provide a private area to discuss your medications and answer your questions. This room is equipped with patient information handouts, as well as demonstration devices for many of the injectable medications we dispense. This provides the opportunity to become comfortable with your new medication with the help of a pharmacist before beginning your treatment.
Patients
At WVU Medicine Specialty Pharmacy, our team is here to support you with the clinical expertise needed to manage complex health conditions. Our goal is to help you understand your specific condition so you can achieve the best possible results and maintain long‑term health. We’ll guide you on how to take your specialty medications safely and effectively. Our team also reviews all of your medications to ensure they work well together and to help prevent any unwanted drug interactions.

Stewardship of High‑Cost Therapies
Specialty medications are powerful—and expensive. Through our comprehensive Patient Management Program, we ensure these therapies are used safely, effectively, and appropriately. This stewardship translates directly into controlled costs, reduced waste, and optimized therapeutic results.
Timely, Targeted Clinical Interventions
Our clinical teams work hand‑in‑hand with providers throughout the patient’s treatment journey. Because we have full access to the patient’s medical record and care plan, we can intervene earlier and more effectively than pharmacies operating outside the health system. The result is a higher standard of patient support with a measurable impact on outcomes and total cost of care.
Health-System Integration: A Unique Advantage
Unlike standalone pharmacies, we are fully embedded within the same clinical ecosystem that cares for your members. This seamless integration offers:
- Unified access to medical records, ensuring consistent, informed decisions.
- Direct communication with treating specialists, accelerating problem resolution.
- Coordinated care plans, reducing duplication of services and improving continuity.
A Partner That Improves Outcomes and Lowers Total Cost of Care
Our specialty pharmacy is designed to support what matters most to payers:
- Improved adherence
- Fewer medication-related complications
- Reduced waste of high-cost therapies
- Enhanced patient satisfaction and experience
- Better alignment across the care continuum
Accreditation
WVUH Specialty Pharmacy is proud to be one of only a few pharmacies in West Virginia to earn dual accreditation from URAC and ACHC for specialty pharmacy services.
These nationally recognized accreditations reflect our commitment to meeting high standards for quality, safety, and patient-centered care. They also allow us to participate in select medication programs and insurance networks, helping ensure our patients have access to the therapies they need
