WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals serves as the southern hub for clinical research within the WVU Medicine system. Our Clinical Research Department is the first stand-alone clinical research department outside of Morgantown for the WVU Medicine family, bringing innovative research opportunities and advanced care closer to the communities we serve.

Thomas Hospitals is proud to offer new treatment options for patient care that may otherwise be unobtainable due to travel or expense. Our goal is to provide innovative, evidence-based care while sharing expertise, advancing medical knowledge, and instilling hope without requiring patients to leave the state.

Clinical research plays a vital role in advancing medicine and improving treatment for patients. Through ongoing research and innovation, we strive to expand evidence-based practices and improve the health and well-being of West Virginians.

Our highly trained research team has experience conducting industry-sponsored clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, retrospective research, case studies and other research initiatives across a wide range of medical specialties. These studies evaluate emerging medications, procedures, and medical devices, helping to shape the future of healthcare while providing our local communities with access to cutting-edge treatments and technologies.

As part of the WVU Medicine system, Thomas Hospitals collaborates with the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) and Clinical Trials Center of Excellence (COE) along with West Virginia University (WVU) to advance research and expand access to innovative care throughout the region.
