MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Barnesville Hospital in Belmont County, Ohio, and Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz, Ohio, officially became full members of the West Virginia University Health System effective April 1.
“With these two hospitals, we’re solidifying our presence in the Upper Ohio Valley by ensuring that residents on both sides of the Ohio River have convenient access to the high quality care they need when and where they need it,” Albert L. Wright, Jr., president and CEO of the WVU Health System, said. “It’s always exciting to grow a family, and the WVU Medicine family is no exception. We’re proud to welcome the patients and employees of these hospitals into the System, and we look forward to continuing and strengthening their legacies.”
Barnesville Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital that employs approximately 250 people, entered into a management agreement and clinical affiliation with WVU Hospitals and the WVU Health System on June 1, 2019. It offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including cardiopulmonary care and rehabilitation, emergency medicine, general surgery, laboratory, physical and occupational therapy, radiology, sleep medicine, and speech/language pathology.
Harrison Community Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital that offers a wide range of healthcare services, including emergency medicine; surgical services; laboratory services; advanced imaging services, including MRI; vascular studies; cardiac rehab; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; skilled nursing services; chemotherapy; women’s health; pain management; and more. It has been an affiliate of Wheeling Hospital, which became a full member of the WVU Health System on April 1, since 2017.
In February, the WVU Health System announced that Dave Phillips, CEO of Barnesville Hospital, would also serve as CEO of Harrison Community Hospital.

As full members of the Health System, Barnesville and Harrison Community hospitals are part of a broad, integrated network of doctors, hospitals, clinics, and specialized institutes across West Virginia, Southwestern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and Eastern Ohio.
