Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program designed to help pulmonary patients improve their ability to perform daily activities.

Our pulmonary rehabilitation services are intended to help patients gain a better understanding of their pulmonary diagnosis and the benefits of exercise. Grant Memorial Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation program provides structured, professionally monitored exercise, education, and support.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Phase II

Pulmonary rehabilitation is designed to help patients with chronic lung disease gain control over their symptoms and gain independence in the activities of everyday life. This is accomplished by helping patients increase their strength and endurance; decrease symptoms; increase knowledge about their condition; decrease depression and anxiety; and increase their quality of life.

Phase II is for patients who have been diagnosed with:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Emphysema
  • Fibrosis
  • Lung transplant

The program consists of 36 sessions of monitored exercise, which are held on Tuesday and Thursday, with education about the patient’s condition.

In Phase II, a monitored exercise routine in the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation unit will be under the supervision of a registered nurse, exercise physiologist, and a respiratory therapist. Our facility offers treadmills, arm ergometers, and NuSteps. Patients’ family members may attend sessions.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Wellness Phase

Our Wellness Phase allows patients to continue the exercise and wellness program after they have completed Phase II. This program is also offered to those who have not been diagnosed with a chronic lung disease but have symptoms or risk factors that may lead to the development of lung disease.

The Wellness Phase offers exercise and education supervised by a registered nurse, exercise physiologist, and a respiratory therapist.

Cost

Most medical insurance companies and Medicare cover the cost of services provided in Phase II of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program.

Our Wellness Phase is not covered by medical insurance, but is offered at a minimal fee. Patients will not be denied based on their ability to pay.
