Computed Tomography (CT)

A computed tomography (CT) scan, sometimes called a CAT scan, is a painless, noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions by producing multiple detailed images of internal structures.

CT scans are often the preferred method of diagnosing causes of pain and different forms of cancer. CT scans of the Internal organs, bones, blood vessels, and soft tissue provide greater clarity than conventional X-ray. Intravenous (IV) contrast may be used to enhance the appearance of organs and blood flow.

CT scans at Grant Memorial Hospital are performed on a Canon Aquilion PRIME SP 160 CT scanner, which uses a reduced dose of radiation compared to conventional scanners. The system features increased speed that enables clinicians to obtain critical patient information much faster, and a larger bore opening that offers a more spacious feeling.
