Cancer Control and Population Sciences

The Experimental Therapeutics research program is dedicated to accelerating the development and clinical translation of innovative cancer therapies that address the unique cancer burden and disparities experienced by the rural populations in the WVU Cancer Institute catchment area. Rural populations within the catchment area have historically been underrepresented in clinical trials and tissue banking, contributing to persistent disparities in access and outcomes.

 The Experimental Therapeutics research program:

• Identifies and validates biomarkers and anti-cancer strategies that improve treatment selection, therapeutic response, and clinical outcomes.
• Develops and applies pharmacological strategies to validate cancer vulnerabilities and prioritize therapeutic targets for clinical translation. 
• Advances novel therapeutic strategies of clinical trials, from first-in-human and early-phase studies to later-phase trials, supported by integrated preclinical and correlative science and population-informed implementation.
