WVU CANCER INSTITUTE

Cancer Control and Population Sciences

The Cancer Control and Population Sciences research program advances the science of cancer prevention and control, with an emphasis on rural cancer control and the rural populations in the West Virginia Cancer Institute’s catchment area. The program fosters high-impact community focused research across the cancer control continuum.

The Cancer Control and Population Sciences research program:

  • Identifies and characterizes multilevel determinants of cancer etiology, risk, and outcomes.
  • Designs and tests innovative interventions to reduce West Virginia’s cancer burden and improve cancer outcomes across the cancer control continuum.
  • Advances the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions in rural populations.
