Before Your Visit

What to Bring

Some items we recommend for your hospital stay include:

  • pajamas or gown and robe
  • nonskid slippers
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • comb/brush
  • other personal toiletries
  • containers for glasses, dentures, or contact lenses

* We ask that you leave your wallet, jewelry, and other valuables at home or with a friend or family member.

Parking

There are three parking lots for patients and visitors at the United Hospital Center:

  1. Patient/Visitor Parking Lot – located directly in front of the hospital. This lot is designated for patients and visitors, as well as the volunteer auxiliary of the hospital.
  2. Cancer Center Lot – located at the south end of the hospital by the Cancer Center. This lot is designated for Cancer Center patients and family.
  3. Emergency Center Lot – located at the north end of the hospital by the Emergency Department. This lot is designated for Emergency Department patients and family.

Lodging

Overnight arrangements may be made for the immediate family of critically ill patients and for out-of-town patients (i,e, radiation oncology) whose treatment program requires an overnight stay in Bridgeport. For more information, contact a nurse on your unit.

Public Transportation services are available.

Our Policies

Tobacco Policy
For the health of our patients, visitors, faculty, and staff, we ask that you please refrain from using tobacco of any form, including e-cigarettes and vapor products, at all WVU Medicine clinics and facilities, including parking lots.

Our entire campus is tobacco-free, including all clinic buildings and surrounding areas (sidewalks and parking lots).

Weapon Policy
WVU Medicine United Hospital Center prohibits firearms:
WVU Medicine United Hospital Center has a policy that prohibits both open and concealed firearms on hospital property, in accordance with West Virginia Code 61-7-14.

Other weapons are also prohibited:
The policy also prohibits other items that can be used as weapons, such as knives, box cutters, and straight razors.

Zero tolerance for threatening behavior:
WVU Medicine has zero tolerance for threatening or aggressive behavior, including using abusive language, making threats of physical harm or violence.

Behavior expectations:
Patients and visitors are expected to refrain from disruptive or threatening behavior to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Focus on patient safety:
WVU Medicine is committed to providing a safe environment for all patients, visitors, staff, and faculty.
