Emergency Care

If your child needs urgent medical care, please go immediately to your nearest emergency room. If you are unable to get to the closest hospital yourself, call 911 right away. Otherwise, you may want to talk with your doctor before going to the emergency room or visit your nearest urgent care clinic.

The Children’s Emergency Department at WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital offers emergency medical treatment for any serious injury or illness your child may experience.

Our emergency trained specialists provide the highest level of care available in a child-friendly, family-focused environment. Child Life specialists work with our physicians, nurses, and technicians, bringing expertise and training in practices and methods that guide your child through the emergency department experience to ensure the best possible result with the least amount of trauma.

Emergency Facilites

WVU Medicine’s flagship medical center in Morgantown is home to the Children’s Emergency Department located at the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital along with the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center.

All our emergency facilities are equipped to provide advanced, expert care for ill and injured patients requiring immediate attention. If you have a child, 0-18 years of age, who needs emergency care, bring them to the Children’s Emergency Department at the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital. 

Directions and Parking

WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Emergency Department are located on the WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital campus at 1 Medical Center Drive in Morgantown, West Virginia. Patient/Visitor lots D and E are the closest parking locations for the Children’s Hospital and Children’s Emergency Department.

Conditions We Treat

The Children’s Emergency Department gives you access to pediatric care providers who are experts in the treatment and stabilization of any emergency your child may be experiencing. Our emergency medicine physicians and providers are trained and equipped to treat a wide range of medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions, which may include: 

  • Acute medical problems
    • Allergic reactions
    • Dehydration
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Persistent fevers
    • Infections
    • Seizures
    • Poisoning or overdose
    • Animal bites
  • Complications of chronic illnesses requiring immediate attention
    • Asthma
    • Diabetes
  • Major injuries
    • Conditions resulting from motor vehicle accidents or falls
    • Head injuries
    • Broken bones
    • Lacerations

By working as a comprehensive care team, we are ready for any situation. In extreme cases, injuries are treated at the WVU Medicine Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center. As the area’s only Level 1 trauma center, the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center offers the highest level of medical and surgical care for life-threatening injuries to patients transported to Morgantown from across West Virginia and our region.
