Getting Started
URAC Accreditation
The WVUH Specialty Pharmacy is one of only a few specialty pharmacies in West Virginia to hold the URAC accreditation. The designation ensures the pharmacy can access limited-distribution medications for serious conditions, such as cancer, hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, and multiple sclerosis, and exclusive pharmacy payer networks, which are critical to the success and viability of the specialty pharmacy program.
URAC accreditation is a symbol of excellence for organizations to showcase their commitment to quality and accountability. The accreditation was based on rigorous documentation standards followed by an on-site survey by URAC to ensure the highest standards of care and medication management.

Pharmacists: Here for you and your loved ones
Our team of clinical pharmacists provides medication education (i.e., administration, management of potential side effects, injection training, the importance of adherence, and more) to ensure patients are knowledgeable and comfortable with their medication to help improve compliance.
Typically, you will hear from a pharmacist over the telephone, but they are also available to provide education in person or over video during normal business hours.
At the physical pharmacy location, there is a designated counseling room to provide a private area to discuss your medications and answer your questions. This room is equipped with patient information handouts, as well as demo devices for many of the injectable medications you may receive from the pharmacy. This provides the opportunity to become comfortable with your new medication with the help of a pharmacist before beginning your treatment.
Pharmacists are also available to discuss your medications over video through MyWVUChart. If you are interested in this option, please speak to a member of the pharmacy team for more information.

Payers
WVU Medicine Specialty Pharmacy understands the critical role payer groups play in the healthcare process. We understand you need to spend your resources as efficiently as possible to provide quality care to all of your patients. We work with you to accomplish this goal.

Our pharmacists provide education and counseling to ensure medication is administered correctly and perform follow-up assessments to drive better outcomes. These assessments help quantify the patients’ progress and identify at-risk patients who may require additional attention. Proactive refill scheduling is also in place to prevent gaps in therapy.
