Thoracic Surgery
Decades of experience and innovation come together to deliver advanced treatments paired with compassionate care.
Dedicated to providing the region's most comprehensive, innovative, and compassionate care
At the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, our board-certified, fellowship-trained thoracic surgeons treat diseases of the chest, lungs, esophagus, and stomach using the latest surgical techniques and advanced technology, including minimally invasive robotic and video-assisted thoracic surgery, to deliver the best possible outcomes.
Supported by a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, radiation oncologists, and respiratory therapists, and in collaboration with the WVU Cancer Institute, we provide expert care for adults undergoing procedures ranging from straightforward to highly complex.

About our Center of Excellence
Advanced Lung Cancer Program
Our multidisciplinary team, including radiation and medical oncology, provides cutting-edge treatments for stage III and IV lung cancer, such as SBRT, immunotherapy, ablative therapy, and specialized care through our mesothelioma program.
Center for Airway Disease
We offer a range of minimally invasive therapies for complex airway conditions like tracheal stenosis, endobronchial tumors, and bronchial strictures. Treatments include ablative therapy, cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, stenting, endobronchial valves, and tracheal resection, along with conventional rigid and flexible bronchoscopy.
Center for Benign Esophageal Disease
In collaboration with our Digestive Diseases team, we use advanced diagnostic tools, such as high-resolution manometry, impedance testing, and BRAVO capsule monitoring, to accurately diagnose and treat challenging esophageal disorders.
Robotic Thoracic Surgery Program
Our surgeons are the most experienced in the region, leading one of the nation’s most comprehensive robotic thoracic surgery programs. We provide patients access to the latest robotic techniques, prioritizing patient safety and surgical excellence.
