Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Care
At the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, our Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) team specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of the heart’s electrical system – conditions that cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly. These abnormal heart rhythms, known as arrhythmias, can cause troubling symptoms and increase the risk of complications such as stroke, heart failure, or sudden cardiac death if left untreated.
Why Choose WVU Heart and Vascular Institute for Electrophysiology
Our fellowship-trained electrophysiologists use the latest medical, minimally invasive, and surgical approaches to restore normal rhythm and protect long-term heart health. We offer comprehensive arrhythmia care across all WVU Medicine locations, with convenient outpatient and ambulatory services statewide. For patients with implanted devices, we provide continuous remote monitoring, ensuring 24/7 oversight and peace of mind.
Our comprehensive care includes:
- Medical management of arrhythmias
- Minimally invasive catheter-based ablation procedures
- Advanced robotic and surgical ablation options
- Implantation of devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators
The Cardiac Electrophysiology team serves all WVU Medicine locations, with convenient ambulatory care available statewide. Patients with implanted devices benefit from continuous in-home monitoring to ensure ongoing heart health.
Services We Provide
Our electrophysiology specialists are highly experienced in treating both common and complex arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (AFib), supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and conduction disorders.
- Medical management of arrhythmias with advanced therapies
- Ablation for ventricular tachycardia, including advanced robotic and surgical ablation techniques
- Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) placement, including transvenous, subcutaneous, and substernal systems
- Complex lead management and extraction for patients with device-related complications
- Catheter-based ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation (AFib) and supraventricular tachycardia
- Pacemaker implantation, including traditional transvenous and newer leadless pacemakers
- Cardiac resynchronization therapies, including left ventricular, His bundle, and left bundle branch pacing
- Transvenous lead management and complex lead extraction
WVU Medicine Center for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)
The WVU Medicine Center for Atrial Fibrillation is the only dedicated multidisciplinary AFib program in West Virginia. Recognized among the nation’s leading centers, our program brings together electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and cardiac surgeons to provide coordinated, patient-centered care. From advanced diagnostics and ablation procedures to long-term monitoring and lifestyle guidance, we help patients manage AFib effectively and reduce their risk of stroke or heart failure.
Advanced, Patient-Centered Care
Our mission is to provide patients across West Virginia and the surrounding region with world-class arrhythmia care, close to home. Whether you are newly diagnosed, seeking a second opinion, or in need of advanced therapies, our team is committed to restoring your rhythm, protecting your heart, and improving your quality of life.
