At WVU Medicine and Health Sciences Center, our mindfulness staff holds decades of combined experience that support in delivering a balanced approach of academic knowledge and mindful understanding with real-world application.
Research shows that mindfulness offers a plethora of health benefits that positively affect pain, stress, and anxiety in addition to improving resiliency and focus.

Mindfulness Classes

Whether you’re seeking better sleep, relief from worry, support through pain, or comfort in times of grief, the Mindfulness Summer Series invites you to pause, breathe, and reconnect with what matters most. Classes are virtual.
Led by a team of expert instructors, this free six-week series is designed to assist in developing and maintaining mindful resilience, mental fitness, and relaxation. Participants are invited to attend up to six one-hour sessions that offer a variety of simple yet practical tools to be mindful in daily living.
Do you already have a mindfulness practice? Would you like to expand your knowledge? In Mindful Steps Part 2, participants will delve deeper with practices related to compassion, inner yoga, adaptability, gratitude and resilience. Classes are virtual.
Mindfulness Ambassador Microcredential
Become a Mindfulness Ambassador through WVU’s Micro Academy and gain practical, science-based skills you can apply to support well-being for yourself and others. This online microcredential builds your confidence to share brief mindfulness-based techniques in everyday settings—whether work, school, or your community.
What you’ll learn
- Describe what mindfulness-based interventions are and how they reduce stress.
- Explain the science of stress, burnout, and mindfulness in the brain and body.
- Confidently guide simple breath, body, and compassion practices in their own personal routine.
- Offer short relaxation, resilience, and energy-regulation exercises to others in appropriate settings.
- Apply mindful awareness and loving-kindness skills to navigate interpersonal stress and daily challenges.
You will also learn how to safely introduce and structure 15–20 minute sessions mindfulness sessions.
Who should enroll
This microcredential is ideal for:
- Individuals seeking personal tools for de-stressing and self-care.
- People in helping, teaching, supervising, or peer-support roles who want foundational skills to hold space for others.
- Anyone interested in adding an evidence-informed mindfulness credential to their résumé or CV.
Format, price, and location
Mindfulness Ambassador – Mindful Steps I & II is offered in a virtual format, making it accessible wherever you are. The enrollment fee is $100.00. Upon successful completion, participants earn the Mindfulness Ambassador microcredential, demonstrating skills in basic instruction and in holding supportive space for brief mindfulness sessions.
Although you will not be certified as a meditation teacher, you will be able to give a limited set of basic instructions and be a resource for your work, student and/or local community. Curriculum includes in-person and online requirements.
Completing the 2025/2026 Mindful Steps 1 and Mindful Steps 2 sessions* will qualify towards the badge requirements. In-person attendance is required for one final “Holding Space” session, which will be offered in April 2026 and August 2026. Contact wellness specialist [email protected] if you have any questions.

Mindful Self-Care Workshop
Mindfulness is the ability to focus and stabilize one’s attention in the here and now. With mindfulness we train our mind to check in more often, the results of which changes our relationship to stress, lessens reactivity, enhances sleep, and increases resilience. Consistent mindfulness practice can affect the body and brain in positive ways while improving overall quality of life.
Led by a team of expert instructors with decades of combined experience, this mindfulness-based self-care workshop will equip participants with variety of information and techniques to attain more life balance and effectively sustain energy, including:
- the science of mindfulness and burnout
- mindfulness meditation
- yoga movements capable of being done at home or in the office
- breathing techniques from the yoga tradition
