Highest level of medical care for diabetes

The WVU Medicine Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Health is an interdisciplinary initiative to prevent and treat obesity, diabetes, and related metabolic disorders across the life-span.

Our Eastern Panhandle team includes Endocrine, Family Medicine, and Pediatric physicians; a nurse practitioner; and a psychologist. In addition to providing direct services, we collaborate with other WVU Medicine providers across the state, working to bring the best possible care to our patients, families, and communities.

Who do we care for?
We care for people of all ages, including children and adults. We provide the full spectrum of metabolic care. We treat:

  • Obesity
  • Pre-diabetes
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Other types of diabetes
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Diabetes in pregnancy

What services do we provide?
We offer a team-based approach to care. Our providers have extensive experience in complex type 1 and type 2 diabetes, pediatrics, pregnancy, medication de-escalation, diabetes reversal, exercise physiology, and behavioral medicine.

Every patient and family we treat receives:

  • High-quality medical care
  • Evidence-based approaches to create individualized plans tailored to their medical condition and needs
  • The four pillars of care:
    • Food
    • Movement
    • Sleep
    • Stress reduction

Dietary approaches include low carbohydrate, moderately low carbohydrate (Mediterranean), and low saturated fat (DASH), among others.

Group visits are available for low carbohydrate and Mediterranean diet approaches.

Behavioral medicine referrals can be provided as needed.
