MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Chad Morley, M.D., WVU Medicine urologist, has been recognized for excellence in performing GreenLight™ laser therapy treatment – a minimally invasive outpatient procedure to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which can relieve bothersome voiding symptoms. Dr. Morley is the first urologist in the state to receive this honor.
GreenLight laser therapy uses laser energy to vaporize the enlarged tissue, creating an open channel for urine to pass through the urethra without the need for incisions. It can help provide immediate relief from enlarged prostate symptoms, such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, urgency, and incomplete bladder emptying. It is a long-term solution to prevent the need for long-term BPH medications.
BPH affects about 50 percent of men by age 60, and up to 90 percent men by age 85.
