Planned power outage to occur across Ruby Memorial Hospital campus on Sunday, Dec. 15

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A planned electrical power outage will occur on the WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital campus at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15. The outage is required to repair faulty equipment on the First Energy main switch supplying electrical power to the campus. Patient care will not be impacted, and all necessary medical equipment will still have power.

At 6 a.m. on Sunday, a Facilities Engineering crew will start the emergency generators and the electrical loads will be switched over to the emergency gear. At that time, the following buildings will be on emergency power:

In preparation for the outage, patients and visitors should be advised that:

  • Lighting will be limited to every third fixture in hallways and common areas.
  • Outlets will not be available for charging personal electronics. Ensure your devices are charged prior to coming to the hospital. Please do not plug anything into the wall outlets during this time.
  • The televisions in each patient room will not be functional until normal power is restored.
  • Meals for inpatients will not be impacted, but the cafeterias in both Ruby and Children’s will offer a limited menu for visitors.
  • The Starbucks in the Ruby lobby and the gift shops at Ruby and Children’s will be closed on Sunday and will resume normal activities on Monday.

Weather conditions could postpone the repair. If the repair goes as planned, the power will be restored at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
