Volunteering
The Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Hospital is an organization that provides volunteers to serve patients, visitors, and hospital employees. They have been serving our community since 1962. For more information, contact the volunteer office at 304-473-2061.
Auxiliary
The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is dedicated to helping WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital be the “best small-town hospital” in West Virginia. The Auxiliary, in conjunction with the hospital’s Foundation, work to provide monetary help for obtaining services and equipment that will enhance the hospital’s ability to serve the community. Throughout the year, the Auxiliary offers scholarships to local students pursuing a healthcare career in West Virginia; honors the “New Year’s Baby” with gifts; provides smoke alarms for new parents; and supports projects that benefit employees, staff, patients, and the hospital. Fundraising for these projects is accomplished through various sales.
Who Our Volunteers Are
Our auxiliary volunteers are:
- people of all ages who offer their time and energy in the service of others.
- touch the lives of those they assist.
- are a critical part of the Hospital’s Care Team.
- feel personal satisfaction from contributing to the welfare of their community.
What Our Volunteers Do
Gift Shop
Volunteers work in the gift shop as cashiers. They also ensure that the gift shop shelves are stocked, arrange displays in an appealing manner, and assist customers.
Nursing Care Facility
Volunteers in this area work with the elderly residents. They have fun calling Bingo or helping with seasonal parties. Volunteers also help the Activities Coordinator with various projects.
Special Projects
Volunteers sponsor various days to recognize employees or staff to show appreciation for all they do for the hospital. From time to time, the hospital may also request assistance with projects such as large mailings.
Information Desk
The information desk volunteers assist the hospital Concierge with the patient registration process. Volunteers escort patients to
outpatient surgical departments; deliver orders, papers, or flowers; give locations of offices or departments; and help to ensure the patients’ needs are met while in the hospital.
Auxiliary Officers
Volunteers can become Auxiliary officers and serve on various committees that contribute to the overall governing and mission of the organization. The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is a member of the Auxiliary of the West Virginia Hospital Association.
