Our multidisciplinary surgical team provides world-class, compassionate care to patients through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

At the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, our highly skilled board certified and fellowship trained vascular surgeons perform a wide range of complex and endovascular procedures to treat all types of vascular diseases and conditions that involve healthy blood circulation using state-of-the-art technologies. The team provides comprehensive care – from urgent treatment of blocked blood flow to long-term treatment plans that address all your health needs, working closely with other specialties, ranging from cardiac surgery, cardiology, to interventional radiology and rehabilitation experts.

Our faculty also participate in the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) registry of the Society for Vascular Surgery. Members of our faculty serve as medical director and data coordinator for the region on the VQI National Governing Council and Research Advisory Committee. We provide leadership on projects to improve the quality of evidence-based care for vascular patients across the state. For the fifth consecutive year, the VQI awarded our division the top three-star rating.

  • Minimally invasive venous intervention for symptomatic venous disease
  • Gore thoracic branch endoprosthesis to treat patients with aortic dissection
  • Arterial plaque removal
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Dialysis Access and Renal (Kidney) Care.
  • Stenting – insertion of narrow tubes that provide structural blood-vessel support
  • Atherectomy – surgeons trim blockages within an artery using a tiny device attached to a slim, tube-like catheter
  • Trans-tibial (below the knee) and pedal (foot and arch circulation) interventions

Complex Aorta Care

Complex aortic surgery care is provided through a multidisciplinary approach involving teamwork between cardiac and vascular providers. The expertise offers the ability to care for the full spectrum of aortic pathology, including complex aortic dissections, aneurysms, and aortic infections.

We routinely utilize advanced imaging protocols using EKG-guided CT angiography scans and dynamic MRI. We continue to perform traditional open aorta exposures when indicated and perform advanced endovascular techniques using commercially available fenestrated and branched stent grafts.
