VASCULAR SURGERY

Within the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, the vascular surgery division works collaboratively with cardiac surgery, cardiology, and vascular interventional radiology to provide global vascular care. We offer the citizens of West Virginia and surrounding area state-of-the-art care in a comfortable and convenient environment.

Our current group consists of five board-certified vascular surgeons. With expertise in both minimally invasive endovascular procedures, such as balloon angioplasty, stenting, and plaque removal and traditional open bypass vascular procedures. Treatment is grounded on evidence-based, best therapy guidelines and tailored to the individual.

Our physicians have more than 15 years’ experience with minimally invasive stent graft therapies for aneurysm disease, including the thoracic and abdominal aorta. We also have experience in newer branch graft/fenestrated graft technology for treating aneurysm disease involving the aortic arch and visceral segment of the aorta. We work in collaboration with cardiac surgeons to determine optimal therapy in our collaborative Center for Aortic Surgery.

In keeping with the Heart and Vascular Institute’s academic mission, the Division of Vascular Surgery has two goals:

  1. Fellowship training — The traditional 5-2 vascular fellowship is designed to train and prepare the next generation of surgeons to treat the citizens of West Virginia.
  2. Partnership with industry — The division works with industry leaders in the development of new technologies for the treatment of vascular disease. We also participate in many FDA-sponsored clinical trials, allowing our doctors and the people of West Virginia access to the latest technological advances in the treatment of vascular disease.
