Swing Bed Program

Our swing bed program is an alternative to long-term hospitalization or a short-term nursing facility, and the length of stay in a swing bed room is dependent upon individual patient needs and progress. The program does not provide permanent placement, but ongoing care until the patient returns home or transfers to a long-term care facility.

Our kind and knowledgeable physical, occupational, and speech therapists work diligently to improve each patient’s strength and independence, so that the transition home or to another facility may be as successful as possible. When a patient is ready to leave the swing bed program, our staff will work with you and your family through the next steps of the process and connect you with community resources for continued support.

Common conditions treated in the swing bed program include:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Extended IV therapy
  • Fractures
  • Orthopedic surgeries (such as hip or knee replacements)
  • Pneumonia
  • Post-surgical procedures
  • Stroke and other neurological disorders

Rehabilitation swing bed services are covered by Medicare and most insurance companies.
