WVU Hospitals Volunteer Services accepting applications for Health Careers Academy

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU Hospitals Volunteer Services is accepting applications for its Health Careers Academy through Feb. 13.

The Health Careers Academy is designed to introduce students to clinical and non-clinical healthcare roles and support early career exploration in medicine and allied health fields.  

The program provides high school students with hands-on exposure to healthcare careers through experiences in multiple departments across WVU Hospitals, including the Emergency Department, the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and Surgical Services. 

Students must be 16-to-18 years old by June 8 to apply. Additional requirements include a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, a 500-word essay outlining interest in the program, an official high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation from teachers or guidance counselors. 

Selected participants must submit immunization records and complete required computer-based learning modules prior to the start of the program.
