WVU Medicine and Martinsburg VA Medical Center Expand Access to Local Neurosurgical Care Through New Partnership
MARTINSBURG, W.Va.— WVU Medicine and the Martinsburg VA Medical Center have launched a new partnership aimed at expanding local access to advanced brain and spine care for veterans across the Eastern Panhandle.
Under the agreement, physicians from the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute will provide specialty services at the Martinsburg VA, reducing the need for veterans to travel outside the region for care.
“Our veterans have given so much in service to our country,” said John Caruso, MD, Neurosurgeon, WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. “They deserve timely, expert care close to home, and we’re honored to be part of a partnership that makes that possible.”
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving access, reducing unnecessary travel, and strengthening coordination of care for veterans across the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding region.
“Strong partnerships are essential to building a health system that truly serves its community,” said Mark O’Hern, Regional President and CEO of WVU Hospitals East. “By working alongside the Martinsburg VA, we are ensuring that veterans can access advanced neurosurgical expertise locally, delivered with the quality, compassion, and coordination they deserve.”
The agreement expands a longstanding relationship between WVU Hospitals East and the Martinsburg VA Medical Center and demonstrates the value of academic clinical collaboration in addressing regional health care needs.
Services under the agreement are expected to begin immediately following completion of credentialing and privileging processes.
