New providers join WVU Medicine

The following providers joined WVU Medicine in November:

Morgantown

ADMINISTRATION

Michael Edmond, MD, joins WVU Medicine as the new chief medical officer of the WVU Health System and vice dean of clinical affairs for the WVU School of Medicine. Dr. Edmond is also a professor of infectious diseases in the WVU Department of Medicine.

A native of Fairmont, West Virginia, he earned his medical degree from the WVU School of Medicine. He subsequently earned advanced degrees in public health, public administration, and business administration from the University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), and the University of Iowa. His postdoctoral training includes fellowships in hospital and clinical epidemiology, as well as infectious diseases, at the University of Iowa and the University of Pittsburgh. Both his internship and residency in internal medicine were at WVU.

Dr. Edmond’s most recent appointment was chief quality officer, associate chief medical officer, and clinical professor of internal medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Iowa Health Care. Earlier in his career, he served as chair of infectious diseases at VCU.

ANESTHESIOLOGY

Alice Seifarth, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric anesthesiologist. Dr. Seifarth was previously a partner at Northern Rockies Anesthesia Consultants at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Montana. She completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

Nicholas Jasinski, PsyD, joins WVU Medicine as a neuropsychologist at the Chestnut Ridge Center. Previously, he was director of clinical training and a clinical and forensic neuropsychologist with Neuropsychological Services, PC in Chicago, Illinois. He is board certified in both forensic psychology and clinical neuropsychology.

COMMUNITY PRACTICE

Christopher Kincaid, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a family medicine physician at Morgantown South. Dr. Kincaid was formerly with Washington Health System in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He completed a residency and earned his medical degree at WVU.

John Kopko, DO, joins WVU Medicine as a family medicine physician at the Cheat Lake clinic. Dr. Kopko completed a family medicine residency at Excela Health.

NEUROLOGY

Kirk Wilhelmsen, MD, PhD, joins WVU Medicine as chief of cognitive neurology at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. He was a distinguished professor of genetics and neurology and director of bioinformatics at the University of North Carolina Renaissance Computing Institute in Chapel Hill. Dr. Wilhelmsen held faculty positions in neurology at Columbia University and the University of California prior to joining UNC.

OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Emily Stallings, CNM, joins WVU Medicine as a midwife at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. She is a recent graduate from Ohio State University with a master’s degree in nurse midwifery/women's health nurse practitioner. 

ORTHOPAEDICS

Nuala Crotty, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. She served as the physical medicine and rehabilitation division chief in the Department of Neurosciences at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Crotty was a senior staff physician at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan and a clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Texas and a fellowship in musculoskeletal rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY

Joseph Kelley, MD, PhD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a radiation oncologist. Dr. Kelley was a former assistant professor of radiation oncology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He completed a residency at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Martinsburg

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Umut Gomcelli, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a non-invasive cardiologist at Berkeley Medical Center. He completed a cardiology residency at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Uniontown

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Sami Amjad, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a critical care physician at Uniontown Hospital. He is a former clinical instructor at the University of Washington and locum tenens intensivist at Sutton Medical Center in Sacramento, California.

Waynesburg

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Barbara Juriga, DO, joins WVU Medicine as a non-invasive cardiologist at the Waynesburg clinic. Dr. Juriga most recently practiced at Uniontown Hospital and prior to that at UPMC Mercy and Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
