Discharge
Before you can leave the hospital, you must meet some physical requirements, which your doctor will discuss with you. Plan to rest for at least 12 to 24 hours after going home. If you have any type of sedation, a driver must take you home, and you must not drive for 24 hours. We suggest that you have a responsible adult stay with you the night after having a procedure.
All patients will receive written instructions concerning medications, activities, return appointments, etc. If you don’t understand any part of your written discharge instructions, please make sure to ask your nurse to explain them in more detail. Our Care Management Department can help arrange for home health or other services you may need after leaving the hospital.
MyWVUChart is also an excellent tool for maintaining discharge instructions once you return home. You can request an appointment with your provider, view and download a copy of your Patient Health Summary, view your test results, refill prescriptions, and communicate electronically with your medical care team. If you experience any changes in your condition after you leave the hospital, go immediately to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
The DAISY Award program is a nationally recognized award program. Wetzel County Hospital has joined the growing network of more than 2,000 healthcare organizations across the country that currently participate in the award program created by the Daisy Foundation. The organization’s mission is to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate care that nurses provide to patients and families every day.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and co-workers.
