About Our Program

ACGME-Accredited Residency Program

As an ACGME-accredited program, our primary goal is to train compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled physicians of the future. About Thomas Hospitals Thomas Hospitals has a long-standing commitment to serving southern West Virginia and providing high-quality, patient-centered care. As a community hospital, our vision extends to our ACGME Residency Program: we strive to take the best care of our patients, colleagues, and community.

Our program is housed in modern, purpose-built facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, providing residents with the tools they need to deliver excellent care. We foster a professional and caring work environment, where collaboration, mentorship, and learning are prioritized.

Residency Training and Learning Opportunities

Our residents benefit from hands-on experience with a diverse patient population and an unopposed learning environment that fosters strong clinical and procedural skills. With the support of experienced faculty, residents also have access to subspecialty lectures, grand rounds, research opportunities, and simulation exercises, helping them grow into skilled and well-rounded physicians.

We also host medical students from regional schools, allowing residents to develop leadership and teaching skills. Our program encourages resident participation in state chapters of ACP and SHM, providing opportunities to present scholarly activity and network with residents from other programs.

Career Development

Our graduates are equipped to pursue fellowships, academic appointments, and careers in private practice, demonstrating the program’s ability to prepare physicians for a variety of career paths.
