About Reynolds Memorial Hospital
At WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital, we’ve been caring for families in the Ohio Valley for more than a century – and we’re just getting started.
Rooted in compassion and guided by purpose, our hospital began as God’s Providence Home, a humble farmhouse turned infirmary by Archdeacon B.M. Spurr in 1899. Funded by Emily Van Buren Reynolds, daughter of President Martin Van Buren and a woman of extraordinary vision, the hospital was established in memory of her husband and sons. Over the years, we’ve grown alongside the community we serve, with a major facility update in 1963 and a new chapter beginning in 2016 when we joined the WVU Medicine family.
Today, Reynolds is proud to bring advanced care and new specialties to Glen Dale and the surrounding region – all with a local, personal touch. We continue to invest in technology, expand services, and attract top medical talent to ensure families don’t have to leave home for exceptional care.
We believe that strong communities are built on access to practical, high-quality health care. Whether it’s life-saving treatment, a routine check-up, or resources to help you stay well, Reynolds is here for every stage of life. Our commitment goes beyond the bedside – we’re your neighbors, your supporters, and your partners in health.
As part of WVU Medicine, we offer a wide range of services including cancer care, heart and lung care, orthopedics, women’s health, behavioral health, and more – all delivered with the warmth and familiarity of a hometown hospital.
Reynolds is a nonprofit, acute-care hospital governed by a volunteer board of directors and licensed for 94 beds, including a 24-bed Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. We are licensed by the West Virginia State Health Department and accredited by The Joint Commission. We’re also proud members of the American Hospital Association, the West Virginia Hospital Association, and the Voluntary Hospital Association.
For more than 100 years, we’ve been proud to serve this region. And we’re here, stronger than ever, for the next 100.
