Skilled Nursing at Fairmont Medical Center

The WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) provides short-term care after a life-changing illness or injury.

We are committed to helping patients get back to what matters most and help with their inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, fractures, falls, weakness, and post-surgery conditions, as well as other complex neurological and orthopaedic conditions.

Our patients receive compassionate care from an expert team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists; respiratory therapists; physicians; nurses; dietitians; pharmacists; case managers; and additional caring staff who work together to create a plan to help patients meet their personal goals.

Our therapy staff members work to address physical, sensory, and cognitive conditions. They focus on daily living activities, such as eating, feeding, bathing, and using the bathroom, as well as mobility, standing, sitting, and moving around independently.

They can also help patients with learning how to rethink, concentrate, and organize ideas and tasks.

Features of our Skilled Nursing Unit include:

  • All private rooms with large, spacious bathrooms for privacy
  • Average patient-to-staff ratio of 1:9
  • State-of-the-art therapy gym
  • Full size kitchen, laundry room, and bathing rooms to prepare for the transition to home
  • Individualized meal plans with point of service ordering
  • Full-service beauty salon
  • Onsite EKGs, bladder scans, laboratory, X-ray, MRI, and Emergency Department available, if necessary
  • Secure unit with onsite security personnel

Staff members are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our nurse practitioners are every day of the week, along with frequent visits from our physician.

Our goal is to help patients feel better physically while making sure they’re comfortable and an active partner throughout the treatment plan. Our experienced clinical team works diligently to get to the core of each patient’s injury or condition to help them recover and stay healthy.
