Breast Imaging Services Available

Digital Mammography

Camden Clark’s Mammography Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Exams are performed by certified technologists using dedicated mammography equipment. Digital mammography allows faster image retrieval and gives radiologists the ability to manipulate images for clearer interpretation — especially helpful for identifying microcalcifications in women with dense breast tissue.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Imaging

For patients who need a biopsy, Camden Clark uses a stereotactic breast biopsy unit from Hologic. This minimally invasive outpatient procedure allows the doctor to take a core biopsy sample with little or no discomfort and no inpatient stay. If the core sample is negative, routine follow-up may be all that’s needed.

What to Expect From Your Visit

Breast imaging is a routine and important part of preventive care, and our team is here to make the experience as smooth, respectful, and comfortable as possible. From the moment you arrive, our staff will guide you through each step of the process, explain what to expect, and make sure all of your questions are answered before your exam begins.

Most screening mammograms take only a short time to complete, and our technologists are specially trained to focus on patient comfort while still capturing the high-quality images needed for accurate results. After your exam, your images are carefully reviewed by experienced radiologists who specialize in breast imaging to ensure accuracy and early detection.

If additional imaging is needed, such as a diagnostic mammogram or breast ultrasound, our team will help coordinate next steps quickly and clearly so you know exactly what to expect. Our goal is to provide a calm, supportive environment and clear communication at every step, so you feel informed, comfortable, and confident in your care.

Screening and Imaging Quality

Your exam is performed by certified technologists using dedicated breast imaging equipment designed specifically for accuracy and early detection. Our advanced digital imaging system allows for high-resolution images and fast, secure image retrieval, so radiologists can carefully review and interpret results. This technology helps our team detect even small changes early, when treatment is most effective, and ensures your provider receives timely, accurate information.

Comfort and Support

We understand that some patients feel nervous about mammograms, and our team is committed to making the experience as comfortable and supportive as possible. Patients receiving 3D mammography often experience a more comfortable process, including the ability to communicate with the technologist and, in some cases, help control compression to improve comfort while still capturing clear images. Our technologists take time to explain each step, answer questions, and help patients feel at ease throughout the exam.

If a Biopsy is Needed

If additional testing is recommended, such as a breast biopsy, our team will guide you through the process and explain each step so you know what to expect. Using stereotactic imaging technology, many biopsies can be performed on an outpatient basis with minimal discomfort and no hospital stay. After the procedure, your care team will review results with you and help coordinate any additional care or follow-up appointments if needed, ensuring you have clear answers and a plan moving forward.

3D Mammography

WVU Medicine Camden Clark offers 3D mammography at two convenient locations: the main campus on Garfield Avenue in Parkersburg and Marietta Gynecologic Associates on 2nd Street in Marietta. This technology improves cancer detection, produces quicker results, and supports a more comfortable patient experience — including patient-controlled compression with technologist guidance.

Benefits of 3D Mammography:

  • Patients can control compression with technologist guidance

  • A more comfortable experience

  • Better cancer detection and quicker results
