Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, MD, FACS, is the WVU Cancer Institute’s executive chair and director, as well as the Jean and Laurence DeLynn Chair of Oncology. She has led the Institute since 2020, focusing her efforts on expansion of regional cancer center sites and supporting the development of programs that increase access to cancer care throughout West Virginia and the region, with the intent of transforming lives and eliminating cancer outcome disparities.

Dr. Hazard-Jenkins, who is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, is also a professor in the WVU School of Medicine and associate chair of cancer services in the Department of Surgery. She has held numerous academic leadership roles, including division chief, Surgical Oncology; leader, Breast Program; and assistant dean, Admissions.

She has earned several accolades over the years due to her service to patients and trainees, including being named Clinician of the Year and the Bernard Zimmerman Outstanding Attending Surgeon, and receiving the Ron Albuquerque Medical Student Teaching Award.

Dr. Hazard-Jenkins has served as an invited speaker at more than two dozen regional and national events and has authored and co-authored more than 45 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and selected abstracts and poster presentations.

A native West Virginian, Dr. Hazard-Jenkins completed her medical education, internship, and residency training in general surgery at West Virginia University and a fellowship in breast diseases at Northwestern University in Chicago.
