WVU Medicine breaks ground on Robert Sonneborn Family Pediatric Outpatient Center in Wheeling
WVU Medicine today celebrated the groundbreaking of the WVU Medicine Children’s Robert Sonneborn Family Pediatric Outpatient Center, a new facility that will bring expanded, state-of-the-art pediatric services to families throughout the Northern Panhandle and Ohio Valley.
"This groundbreaking represents a significant step forward in how we deliver pediatric care in the Ohio Valley,” Amy L. Bush, B.S.N., M.B.A., R.N., C.N.O.R., chief administrative officer for WVU Medicine Children’s, said. “Every element of this new center, from specialized services to thoughtful design, reflects our unwavering commitment to the children and families of this region. We are proud to expand our reach and bring expert, compassionate care closer to home for the communities we serve.”
Located at 500 Medical Park – the former Continuous Care Center site – the new center is designed to be a comprehensive destination for children’s outpatient care. Once complete, the facility will feature 37 exam rooms, an after-hours clinic, pediatric lab and imaging services, separate entrances for well and sick visits, and Austin’s Playroom, which is a regional initiative established by the Mario Lemieux Foundation to help young patients, and their families feel at ease during medical visits.
“This center will be the region’s hub for pediatric specialty care – a place where families can access multiple services under one roof, close to home,” said Doug Harrison, president of the WVU Medicine Northern Region and president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital. “From lab work and imaging to specialty clinics and after-hours care, this is about making sure our children can get the highest quality care right here in the Ohio Valley without having to travel far.
“The WVU Medicine Children’s Robert Sonneborn Family Pediatric Outpatient Center reflects our commitment to providing world-class care for kids in a family-centered environment. It’s about more than just healthcare – it’s about convenience, comfort, and continuity of care for the families we serve.”
