WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital presents employees with quarterly recognition awards
UNIONTOWN, Pa. – WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital recently presented quarterly recognition awards to Megan Brant, mammography modality specialist, and David Mitchell, patient transporter.
Brant, who has worked at Uniontown Hospital for 18 years, was presented with the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award, which honors the exceptional skills and compassion of aides and techs.
Brant was nominated by a patient who commended her for providing compassionate care and easing her fears during a time of uncertainty.
“She stopped the mammogram and talked to me. She could have easily continued the test and went on to her next patient, but she didn’t. She stopped, talked to me about everything, and made me feel calm. I was unable to calm myself, but she did,” they wrote. “I absolutely believe she is just as supportive and caring to her other patients as she was with me. This goes a long way, especially when you are feeling the way I was.”
Blair LaVake, RT, director of Diagnostic and Cardiovascular Imaging, echoed the sentiments of the nominator.
“Megan is an absolutely wonderful and skilled technologist, but what sets her apart is her kindness and compassion,” LaVake said. “She truly cares about our community and is always looking for ways to offer more access of care to our patients. She is an amazing leader who has constantly proven deserving of such a high honor.”
David Mitchell, employed since August, was awarded the Sunshine Award for exceptional service, which celebrates the dedication of non-clinical support staff who make a meaningful impact through compassion, care, and everyday acts that brighten the lives of those they serve.
Mitchell was nominated for the award by a patient who described him as attentive, compassionate, and deeply considerate.
In the nomination they stated that, “David’s gentle care and calming presence made a painful day more bearable.”
Though a newer member of the team, Mitchell’s approach to his job duties and patient interactions has been noticed by patients and leadership as well.
“David is extraordinary and proficient in his profession,” Nikki Craft, manager of the Clinical Resource Center, said. “He goes above and beyond his regular duties. David demonstrates exceptional skills and professionalism, while making patients and families feel like a priority.”
Karyn Wallace, president and CEO of Uniontown Hospital, attended the presentation of both awards.
“Having the opportunity to recognize our team members for the work they do is always an honor,” Wallace said. “These patient encounters highlight what we want to be known for at Uniontown Hospital – a place to receive quality care from compassionate team members who are dedicated to excellence in outcomes and experience.”
