PCH hosts Go Red event to raise awareness of women’s heart health

PRINCETON, W.Va. -- WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) hosted a Go Red event on Friday, February 6, 2025, in recognition of American Heart Month, raising awareness about women’s heart health and the unique risks heart disease poses to women.

The event took place in the hospital atrium, with PCH President and CEO Karen Bowling, director of cardiology Dr. Stephen Ward, and hospital employees in attendance. Participants were encouraged to wear red to show their support for cardiovascular health and women’s heart health awareness.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, and women often experience different symptoms than men due to hormonal and anatomical differences. The Go Red event highlighted the importance of understanding these differences, along with the value of early detection, regular screenings, and heart-healthy lifestyle choices.

In addition to sharing heart health information, attendees gathered for a group photo to demonstrate their collective support for women’s heart health and to reinforce the hospital’s commitment to educating the community about heart disease prevention.
