Potomac Valley Hospital honors Christy Metts with DAISY Nurse Leader Award
Keyser, W.V. – WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital is proud to recognize Christy Metts, nursing manager of the medical surgical unit, as the recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award is part of the international DAISY Foundation recognition program established to honor nurses and healthcare professionals who demonstrate extraordinary compassion and clinical excellence. The Nurse Leader Award specifically recognizes nurse leaders who foster an environment where compassionate, skilled care can thrive, even if they are not directly providing bedside patient care.
This prestigious recognition is awarded to nurse managers, directors, assistant managers, charge nurses, chief nursing officers, informatics nurses, and patient flow nurses who positively impact patient care through leadership, mentorship, and support of their teams.
Under Christy’s leadership, the medical surgical department at Potomac Valley Hospital has experienced significant improvements in patient satisfaction scores, teamwork, staff satisfaction, and overall patient care. Her leadership has helped stabilize the department’s staffing model while creating a culture of engagement, collaboration, and compassion among staff members.
“Christy’s leadership is evident in every interaction she has with her team, patients, and colleagues,” said a nominator. “She genuinely cares about her employees and works tirelessly to ensure they feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow.”
Colleagues describe Christy as a positive and inspiring leader who consistently demonstrates compassion and professionalism, even during challenging situations. Her calm and reassuring presence has helped both staff and patients navigate difficult moments with confidence and comfort.
In addition to her leadership within the hospital, Christy also serves as a part-time instructor for the nursing program at Potomac State College. She has also helped onboard several nursing students as patient care technicians, encouraging their professional development and early integration into the healthcare field.
“Christy looks for the best in everyone and encourages them to learn and grow,” another nominator shared. “She has created a safe and supportive environment where staff members feel comfortable, appreciated, and motivated to provide exceptional care.”
Christy is recognized for embodying the hospital’s mission of treating every patient and staff member like family. Her commitment to excellence, encouragement of professional growth, and unwavering positivity have made a lasting impact on the medical surgical unit and throughout the organization.
