Jackson General Hospital celebrates completion of $35M expansion at ribbon-cutting ceremony
RIPLEY, W.VA. – WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital (JGH) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday (May 30) to celebrate the expansion of the services offered to surrounding communities as it prepares to open its new $35 million state-of-the-art wing for patient care. JGH broke ground on the expansion in August 2022, and the new wing will be operational beginning June 5.
The expansion is comprised of a new Emergency Department with 14 private rooms, including two triage rooms, two trauma rooms, a decontamination room, and mental health rooms on the first floor. A new Surgical Department with 12 pre/post/anesthesia bays; two large operating suites, including new DaVinci Xi robotic surgery technology; and two additional procedure rooms, are also located on the first floor of the expansion.
The second floor of the expansion includes the inpatient/swing-bed unit with 18 private rooms, a three-chair patient infusion area, and a rehabilitation room. Four of the inpatient rooms will have capabilities to be converted into critical care rooms, as needed.
A smaller third floor houses the mechanical penthouse.
“We are beyond excited to introduce and share this wonderful new space with our community,” Stephanie McCoy, JGH president and CEO, said. “It has been a progressive work performed by a host of talented and skilled people, and we are blessed and proud to continue serving patients in a great place for care that is also a great place to work.”
