MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – WVU Medicine East officials announced today that applications for the Frank Sabado, Jr, M.D. Tennis Classic Scholarship are now available at each of the public high schools in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.
Following the 2019 event, Tennis Classic Co-chairs Ernie Agbayani, M.D. and Roberto Reyna, M.D. stated that the proceeds would once again fund a one-time $2000 scholarship to be awarded to a senior from each high school studying pre-med in the fall of 2020.
“We want to encourage and assist area youth interested in becoming physicians,” Dr. Reyna stated. “Because this tournament was established in 2004 by a group of local physicians and renamed in 2015 in memory of our colleague Dr. Frank Sabado, the committee felt it was appropriate to establish a scholarship to support local students pursuing a career in medicine.”
Applications for the Sabado scholarship are available in the guidance departments at Jefferson High School, Washington High School, Martinsburg High School, Musselman High School, Hedgesville High School and Spring Mills High School. The application deadline is March 31, 2020.
