New providers join WVU Medicine

The following providers joined WVU Medicine in July.

Morgantown

ANESTHESIOLOGY

Justin Christensen, DO, completed his fellowship training in acute pain and regional anesthesia at Tampa General Hospital and his residency training at Cleveland Clinic.

Hallisey Estes, DO, completed a regional and acute pain fellowship at UPMC. She completed an anesthesiology residency and her medical degree at WVU.

Matthew Weeks, MD, completed a fellowship in regional and acute pain at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and an anesthesiology residency and his medical degree at Wayne State.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

Krestin Radonovich, PhD, joins WVU Medicine as the Director of Child Neuropsychology at the WVU Medicine Children’s Neurodevelopmental Center. Dr. Radonovich is a former pediatric neuropsychologist and visiting associate professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh. She also has expertise in epilepsy and oncology.

Elizabeth Douty, PLPC, joins WVU Medicine as a clinical therapist at the Chestnut Ridge Center. She completed a Masters of Social Work at WVU, and she has previous experience as a mental health specialist at the Chestnut Ridge Center.

WVU CANCER INSTITUTE

Konstantinos Sdrimas, MD, joins the WVU Cancer Institute as a hematology and oncology provider. He completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Miami.

WVU MEDICINE CHILDREN’S

Rita Sico, DO, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as a pediatric radiologist. She completed a pediatric radiology fellowship at UPMC and a radiology residency at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes.

Sarah Bonasso-Stuart, PNP-BC, is a pediatric pulmonary nurse practitioner. She graduated from WVU with her master’s degree and has three years of experience as a PNP. She has previous RN experience in the PICU as well.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Paul Craven, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Ruby. Dr. Craven completed an emergency medicine residency at WVU and earned his MD at the University of Washington in Seattle.

James Scheidler, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Ruby. Dr. Scheidler completed an emergency medicine residency and an EMS fellowship at Wake Forest University. He earned his MD at WVU.

ENDOCRINOLOGY

Jennifer Turner, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an endocrinologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. Dr. Turner completed her fellowship at WVU.

WVU HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

George Comas, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a cardiac surgeon in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Comas is the former chief of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was also a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Oklahoma University School of Medicine.

Kevin Felpel, DO, is a cardiologist who completed an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology fellowship at the University of Utah. He was the chief cardiology fellow at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University/Christiana Care Health Services Program in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Affan Haleem, MD, is an interventional cardiologist. He completed an advanced heart failure and transplant fellowship at St. Vincent Health and an interventional cardiology fellowship at New York Presbyterian. He also practices at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital.

Steven Sorci, DO, is heart failure and non-invasive cardiologist. He completed an advanced heart failure and transplant fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital and a cardiovascular medicine fellowship at Northside Hospital and Tampa Bay Heart Institute. He also practices at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.

Leslie Heggen, PA, is a physician assistant in electrophysiology. She has previous experience with the National Sinus Institute in New Mexico. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine’s Physician Assistant Program.

Ghassan Azeez, MD, completed an infectious diseases fellowship at WVU.

Joy Juskowich, MD, completed an internal medicine residency at WVU.

Belal Kaseer, MD, completed an internal medicine residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Salman Khan, MD, completed an internal medicine residency at WVU.

Stacey Mahady, DO, completed an internal medicine residency at WVU. 

Tien Nguyen, MD, completed an internal medicine residency at WVU.

Ibrahim Sayyid, MD, is a hospitalist formerly of the University of Buffalo.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES

Daphne Villanueva, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a transplant infectious diseases physician at Ruby. She completed an infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Florida and a transplant infectious disease fellowship at the University of North Carolina.

NEPHROLOGY

Devan Makati, MD, joins the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic as a nephrologist. He completed a fellowship at WVU.  

WVU ROCKEFELLER NEUROSCIENCE INSTITUTE

Francisco Casalduc, MD, joins the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute as a neuroradiologist. Dr. Casalduc completed a neuroradiology fellowship at WVU and a radiology residency at Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine in New York City.

Justin McCloskey, MD, is the Education Director in the Department of Neuroradiology. He completed a neuroradiology fellowship at UPMC.

Manish Ranjan, MD, is a neurosurgical hospitalist. He is a former research fellow and a clinical stereotactic and functional neurosurgery fellow with WVU. He completed a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at Barrow/Phoenix Children’s. He also completed an epilepsy neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Calgary and a stereotactic and functional neurosurgery research fellowship at the University of Toronto.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

Kevin Halenda, MD, is a glaucoma specialist at the WVU Eye Institute. He completed a glaucoma fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.

Nicole Pumariega, MD, is a retina specialist who completed a retina fellowship at the WVU Eye Institute.

OTOLARYNGOLOGY

Hussein Jaffal, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a pediatric otolaryngologist at the Suncrest Towne Centre clinic. He completed two pediatric ENT fellowships, one at the University of Texas in Dallas and another at the University of Alberta, Canada. 

PATHOLOGY

Ryan Demkowicz, MD, joins the pathology team at Ruby. He completed a medical microbiology fellowship at Indiana University and an anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Cleveland Clinic.

PEDIATRICS

Kacie Kidd, MD, joins the adolescent medicine team at the WVU Medicine University Town Centre clinic. She completed an adolescent fellowship at UPMC and a pediatric residency at WVU.

Mediatrix Mbamalu, MD, is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician. She completed a developmental and behavioral pediatric fellowship at Boston Medical Center. She is one of two such specialists in West Virginia.

PRIMARY CARE

Cyrus Hajiran, MD, is a family medicine physician at the WVU Medicine Cheat Lake clinic. He completed a family medicine residency at WVU.

Harpreet Kaur, MD, is a general internal medicine physician at the WVU Medicine Physician Office Center. She completed an internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia.

PULMONARY, CRITICAL CARE, AND SLEEP MEDICINE

Amirahwaty Abdullah, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician at the Physician Office Center. She completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Geisinger.  

RADIOLOGY

Brian Connolly, DO, is a diagnostic radiologist. He formerly practiced at South Hills Radiology Associates in Pittsburgh. He completed a radiology residency at WVU.

Bethani Hahn, MD, is a radiologist who completed a breast imaging fellowship, radiology residency, and earned her MD at WVU.

J. Matthew Meadows, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an interventional radiologist at the Physician Office Center. He is the former Assistant Chief of Interventional Radiology at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. He completed afellowship at the University of Michigan and a radiology residency at Tripler. He is a graduate of the WVU School of Medicine.

Maximilian Shellinger, MD, is an interventional radiologist. He completed vascular and interventional radiology fellowship and diagnostic radiology residency at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.

Bridgeport

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Brandon Wilson, MD, is an emergency medicine physician at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center. He completed an emergency medicine residency and MD at WVU.

NEUROSURGERY

Allan Fergus, MD, specializes in spine neurosurgery. He is the former president of Virginia Brain and Spine Center in Winchester, Virginia and former chief of neurosurgery at Winchester Medical Center. 

Buckhannon

WVU HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Daniel Brito Guzman, MD, completed a cardiac imaging fellowship at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and a heart failure and cardiovascular disease fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He practices at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Fairmont

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Haley Frauen, MD, is an emergency medicine physician at WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center. She completed an emergency medicine residency at WVU and medical school at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.

Scott Meester, MD, completed a sports medicine fellowship in the WVU Department of Emergency Medicine and an emergency medicine residency at the University of Iowa.

Keyser

WVU CANCER INSTITUTE

Shayna Parsons, NP, is a hematology and oncology nurse practitioner at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital. She graduated from Northern Kentucky University.

Martinsburg

WVU HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Omar Nadra, MD, is a vascular surgeon at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center. He completed a vascular surgery fellowship at WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and a general surgery residency at Johns Hopkins and the University of South Alabama.

Parkersburg

Satheesh Kumar Bokka, MD, is a neurologist practicing at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. He completed a neurology residency at the University of Louisville.

Sindu Barola, MD, is a pediatric hospitalist at Camden Clark Medical Center. She completed a pediatric residency at Nassau University Medical Center.

Uniontown

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Nathan Boin, MD, joins Uniontown Hospital as an emergency medicine physician. Dr. Boin completed an emergency medicine residency at the University of Miami.

Affan Haleem, MD, is an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Haleem completed an advanced heart failure and transplant fellowship at St. Vincent Health and an interventional cardiology fellowship at New York Presbyterian. He also practices at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute in Morgantown.

Rafka Chaiban, MD, joins Uniontown Hospital as a pediatrician. She practiced at the WVU Medicine Cranberry Square clinic in Morgantown, as well as WVU Medicine Berkeley Medicine Center, before joining Uniontown Hospital. She completed a pediatrics residency at WVU.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

Varshaa Kumar is a mental health therapist at William R. Sharpe Hospital. She has a master’s degree in counseling from the State University of New York.

WVU CANCER INSTITUTE

Jondavid Pollock, MD, PhD, is the Chair of Radiation Oncology at Schiffler Cancer Center at Wheeling Hospital, a division of the WVU Cancer Institute. He trained at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda and practiced at the National Naval Medical Center prior to joining Wheeling Hospital.

Bobbie Saleh, NP, is a medical oncology nurse practitioner at Wheeling Hospital. She graduated with her Masters of Nursing from Marshall University.

WVU HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Robert Herron, MD, is a thoracic surgeon at Wheeling Hospital. He completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and residency at WVU and a general surgery residency at CAMC.

Victor Arcega, MD, is the Medical Director for Infection Control and Antibiotic Stewardship in the division of infectious diseases at Wheeling Hospital. He completed an infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Connecticut.

Jessica Limbacher, PA-C, is a physician assistant graduate from West Liberty University. She joins the neurosurgery practice at Wheeling Hospital.

PRIMARY CARE

Alexandra Tennant, PA, graduated from the University of Mount Union’s Physician Assistant Program. She has previous experience as a physician assistant at Martins Ferry Health Center at Wheeling Hospital.
