1st annual Triathlon donates to Good Samaritan Fund
Howard Long Wellness Center hosts successful first event
WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital is pleased to announce that thanks to the efforts of our community and staff, the 1st Annual Howard Long Wellness Center Triathlon was able to donate over $1,300.00 to the Good Samaritan Fund. Hosted at the Howard Long Wellness Center in March, this event was initially constructed by Dr. Stanley Guertal, Wheeling Hospital SMG Emergency Department, and Joe Slavik, Director Howard Long Wellness Center.
The event saw single and team competitors race through timed periods in the pool, on the bike, and on the treadmill to simulate the events of a real triathlon. Times were recorded for each individual event and winners were announced in various categories. When asked about the event, Dr. Guertal commented, "I’m incredibly thankful for the turnout we had for our inaugural event. It is a tremendous blessing to both participate in and celebrate wellness while also raising money for those less fortunate who come through our ED. I can’t wait to see how the event grows next year.”
