WVU Hospitals Volunteer Services to host Health Careers Academy for high school students

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Hospitals Volunteer Services will offer the Health Careers Academy, formerly the Junior Volunteer Academy, again this year.

Participants in the Academy will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various departments, including the Emergency Department, Orthopaedics, Surgical Services, and others. 

Students interested in participating must be between the ages of 16-18 by June 24, write a 500-word essay about why they want to be a part of the Academy, demonstrate scholastic ability as evidenced by a GPA of least 3.0, and provide their high school transcript and two letters of recommendation from teachers or guidance counselors. 

Potential participants will attend a group interview with a selection committee. If chosen to participate, students must provide immunization records to Employee Health and complete computer-based learning modules.
