Mehaffey named to Cardiovascular Business Forty Under 40 Class of 2026
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A WVU Heart and Vascular Institute surgeon has joined a select group of highly accomplished clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, and administrators named to the Cardiovascular Business Forty Under 40 Class of 2026.
J. Hunter Mehaffey, M.D., M.Sc., a cardiothoracic surgeon and co-director of research in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, was recognized for his work advancing cardiac surgery outcomes and research, as well as his leadership in clinical and academic medicine.
The annual recognition honors emerging leaders under 40 who are making significant contributions to cardiovascular care, research, innovation, and leadership.
Dr. Mehaffey’s research focuses on improving patient outcomes, expanding access to care, and driving innovation in cardiovascular surgery.

The author of numerous peer-reviewed published works, Mehaffey is widely recognized for his contributions to cardiac surgery research in multiple areas of interest, including valve disease, surgical outcomes, and health system performance.
The Cardiovascular Business Forty Under 40 program highlights rising leaders across the field who are expected to make lasting contributions to patient care and the health care industry.
