WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education to begin accepting applications

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –The WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education (CNE) will begin accepting online applications for the Fall 2025 cohort of its new nursing diploma program at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15.  WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education logo

First announced earlier this year, the 21-month program offers prospective students a quality,  hospital-based, tuition-free nursing education followed by a three-year work commitment with the WVU Health System upon graduation.

The CNE will be housed in a state-of-the-art facility within the WVU Innovation Corporation. Renovations are ongoing but are expected to wrap in early 2025, with the CNE opening its doors in February.

When completed, the school will showcase innovative learning and training spaces along with amenities to address barriers to education experienced by many students, such as study rooms, laundry facilities, a food bank, and lactation rooms.

“We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to the program,” Tanya Rogers, Ed.D., M.S.N., assistant vice president of nursing education for the CNE, said. “We have seen the excitement in the volume of inquiries and the stories of how much a hospital-based nursing program could mean to our prospective students.”

To be eligible for enrollment, interested students must have a high school diploma, GED, or TASC equivalent by July 1, 2025, with a C average or higher in high school or college algebra, chemistry, and English.

The program’s application and all necessary materials must be completed and submitted by Oct. 1 for priority consideration for admission to the first cohort of students, set to begin classes in August 2025. Enrollment periods will continue semi-annually in January and August of each year.

“There is already so much being done in our region to increase the number and skill level of nurses, and the WVU Medicine Center for Nursing Education wants to enhance those efforts,” Dr. Rogers said. “It is our hope that the first cohort of students and those to follow them will establish successful careers through our program and the supports it offers.”
