Amy Butts, PA-C, DFAAPA, BC-ADM, CDCES, a WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital endocrinology physician assistant, has been appointed President of the American Society of Endocrine Physician Assistants (ASEPA) for a two-year term.
Founded in 1999, ASEPA is a professional medical organization dedicated to endocrine education and the advancement of physician assistants in endocrinology to provide increased access to quality patient care. The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) recognized ASEPA as a specialty constituent organization in 2000. “I am excited and honored to be in the role as president of ASEPA,” said Butts. “My goal during my time as president is to continue to help spread endocrinology education to fellow physician assistants across the U.S. to improve access and quality care to all patients.”
Endocrinologists specialize in the treatment of hormone-related conditions that affect the endocrine system. A wide range of medical conditions are caused by endocrine hormone imbalances. Diabetes is the most common endocrine disease in the United States.
Butts, who is a certified diabetes educator and board certified in Advanced Diabetes Management, sees patients at the hospital’s Wellsburg Clinic. She is a graduate of the Health Sciences Honors Program at Saint Francis University, Loretto, PA. She also earned her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Sciences there.

She has been awarded America’s Top Physician Assistant by Point of Care Network for two consecutive years, 2020 and 2021.
