Potomac Valley Hospital now providing total ankle replacements
Keyser, W.Va. – The orthopedic surgical team at Potomac Valley Hospital (PVH) has added total ankle replacements to its retinue of joint replacement surgeries.
Sherif Dabash, MD, who joined PVH in 2023, performs the total ankle replacements. Dr. Dabash has extensive experience in addressing foot and ankle issues, having served as a clinical foot and ankle fellow at the University of Texas McGovern School prior to joining PVH. In addition, Dr. Dabash was a clinical research fellow at Texas Tech University, a limb lengthening surgical fellow at the Paley Institue at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida, and an orthopedic surgery fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Dr. Dabash works closely with Dr. Hamed Vahedikafshgari in addressing the orthopedic needs of area patients. The two surgeons provide orthopedic care of the highest quality; in 2024, PVH was designated an Orthopedic Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission.
Total ankle replacement, also known as ankle arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure where a damaged or arthritic ankle joint is replaced with an artificial joint. This procedure aims to relieve pain, improve function, and restore mobility in individuals with severe ankle arthritis or other issues.
The PVH orthopedic team provides a full array of partial and total joint replacement surgeries, as well as arthroscopic surgeries, ligament reconstruction, and general orthopedics.
“Our goal is to ensure that the people in our service area receive the best patient care possible,” says Mark Boucot, President & CEO of PVH and Garrett Regional Medical Center, located in Oakland, MD. “Our two orthopedic surgeons are superlative in the care they provide; it is their excellent work ethic and dedication to their patients as well as that of our OR staff in general that helped earn PVH the Joint Commission’s Center of Excellence in Orthopedic Care designation.”
Boucot added that Potomac Valley Hospital has not had a surgical site infection, catheter-associated urinary tract infection, or central line-associated bloodstream infection in a patient in over a year.
“We’re very proud of the quality care we provide,” he concludes, “and our orthopedic team is among the best in the region.”
