Visitation Guidelines

At Wetzel County Hospital, we understand how important it is for patients to be surrounded by loved ones. Our visitation guidelines are designed to support healing while ensuring the safety and comfort of all. Please review the information below to help plan your visit.

General Visiting Hours

We believe that healing happens best with the support of family and friends. To ensure a safe and restful environment for all patients, please follow the general visitation guidelines below when planning your visit.

Key Information:

  • General visiting hours: 9 am – 9 pm daily
  • If you have flu-like symptoms, please postpone your visit
  • All visitors must check in at the Information Desk
  • Children under age 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult
  • Visitors under age 16 are not permitted in the preparation or recovery areas
  • Visits may be restricted due to various reasons to ensure patient care is the top priority
  • Our healthcare facilities are tobacco-free, including sidewalks and parking lots
  • If visitors wish to be escorted to their car after dark, they may contact the Emergency Department to request assistance from a security officer

Inpatient Visitor Guidelines

Visitors are welcome in our inpatient units during designated hours, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a calm, healing-focused setting. Please keep the following guidelines in mind during your visit.

Adult Inpatient Units:

  • 1 adult visitor may be present during visiting hours
  • Patients may designate unlimited approved visitors, but only 1 may visit at the same time
  • Approved visitors may leave and return during the same day
  • No overnight visitation is permitted

Special Circumstances:

  • End-of-life situations: Visitation exceptions may be made in accordance with WV State Code and hospital policy

Emergency Department Visitor Guidelines

We know that emergencies can be overwhelming, and having a loved one close by can provide much-needed comfort. While our team works to deliver urgent care as quickly and safely as possible, we also want to ensure a respectful, secure environment for all patients and staff.

Please keep the following in mind when visiting the Emergency Department:

  • Adult Patients: One visitor (age 18 or older) is permitted
  • Pediatric & Obstetric Patients: Up to two adult visitors (age 18 or older) are allowed
  • Where to Wait: Visitors may stay in the patient’s room when space allows, or in the designated waiting area
  • If Space Is Limited: One visitor may be asked to wait outside or in their vehicle until called
  • Safety Requirements: All visitors must follow hospital workplace safety protocols

Outpatient Visitor Guidelines

We welcome support persons at outpatient appointments and clinic visits. Whether you’re here for a routine checkup, a diagnostic test, or a same-day procedure, having someone with you can bring comfort and clarity. To ensure smooth visits and safe care, please follow the guidelines below.

Visitor guidelines for outpatient and clinical areas:

  • Adult Patients: One visitor may accompany the patient during their appointment or procedure
  • Pediatric & Obstetric Patients: Up to two adult visitors (age 18 or older) are allowed
  • Waiting Areas: Visitors may wait with the patient or in designated public spaces as available
  • Arrival & Check-In: Visitors should arrive with the patient and follow any instructions given by clinical staff
  • Special Circumstances: Exceptions may be made based on clinical need or patient condition at the discretion of staff
