Nurse Aide Program

Nursing Assistants play a vital role in supporting nursing teams while upholding the highest standards of safety, compassion, and infection control.

As healthcare continues to evolve, the demand for nursing assistants remains strong.

Nurse Aide Program

The Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) includes more than 140 total course hours, with 91 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 58 hours of hands-on clinical experience. Students will be prepared to sit for the West Virginia State Nurse Aide Exam, including both the written and skills competency components.

Program Impact

This program expands the entry-level care pathway and builds a foundation of locally trained, credentialed caregivers who then may start a pathway toward becoming a registered nurse (RN).

Program Courses

The Nurse Aide Program (NAP) is fully compliant with OHFLAC standards and meets all requirements set by the Office of Health Facility Licensure & Certification.

Time to Complete Program

The Nurse Aide Program is approximately 16 weeks in length, with classes held two days per week.

Program Cost

The cost of the Nurse Aide Program is $1,500 per student.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be a high school graduate or hold a GED with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. All students are required to complete a tuberculosis (TB) screening, drug screen, and background check, and must be cleared through WV CARES. Proof of current immunization status is also required, and flu vaccines are mandatory prior to participating in clinicals during flu season.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Phlebotomists play a vital role in diagnostic accuracy and patient safety by ensuring high-quality blood collection and specimen handling.

This program also serves as an excellent entry pathway into broader allied-health careers, making it an ideal first step for those looking to grow in the healthcare field.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program combines comprehensive classroom instruction with more than 40 hours of hands-on clinical training. The curriculum is aligned with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and focuses on essential skills such as venipuncture, accurate specimen labeling, and infection control.

This program expands internal laboratory capacities and improves clinical efficiency across Potomac Valley Hospital and partner sites, helping teams deliver timely, high-quality care closer to home.

Program Courses

The program courses are carefully designed to align with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician content areas, providing students with a comprehensive foundation in both theory and practice. Coursework covers essential topics such as safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance, including OSHA standards and proper use of personal protective equipment. Students gain a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as the basic anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system. Hands-on training emphasizes venipuncture and capillary collection techniques, correct order of draw, tube selection, and accurate patient identification. The curriculum also addresses special patient populations, difficult collections, specimen handling, processing, storage, and transport, along with quality assurance and pre-analytical error prevention. Legal, ethical, and professional standards are integrated throughout, while supervised skills labs and clinical experiences ensure competency in real-world settings. Additionally, students develop professional communication skills, learn about healthcare team roles, and practice effective patient interaction, preparing them for a successful career as a phlebotomy technician.

Time to Complete Program

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician program is a 12-week course designed to build your skills step by step. Weeks 1–7 include two days of classroom instruction per week, and weeks 7-11 focus on completing 100 hours of supervised clinical experience.

The cost of the Certified Phlebotomy Technician program is $1,500 per student.
