SPINAL CORD INJURY MANAGEMENT COURSE

The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Management course was created out of the need for more specialized education at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. This is a multidisciplinary course designed to provide education on the care of the spinal cord patient, from admission to discharge, with additional sections dedicated to the psychosocial aspects of this type of injury as it relates to families and caretakers and the challenges patients face with post-discharge placements.

This SCI course features interactive lectures and skill stations, which include but are not limited to proper positioning/turning, equipment awareness, and ventilator management. Each discipline not only teaches and provides hands-on learning, but is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of their content. This ensures the educators are up to date on current practices, which will continually enhance the overall care of SCI patients.

Disciplines included in this course:

  • Care Management
  • Nursing
